Formula & How It Works
business days = calendar days − weekend days (Monday–Friday only)
- Days are counted Monday to Friday, with Saturdays and Sundays tallied separately as weekend days.
- The start date is excluded by default and can be included with the “Count the start date” checkbox.
- Public and company holidays are not built in, so subtract any that fall inside your range.
Step-by-Step Example
3 March 2025 to 30 June 2025, with the start date excluded.
- 1.Calendar days
- 120
- 2.Weekend days
- 35
- 3.Business days
- 120 − 35 = 85
- 4.Including the start date
- 3 March is a Monday → 86
85 business days from a 120-day span, or 86 when the start date is counted.
Frequently asked questions
Does this tool exclude both Saturdays and Sundays from the count?
Yes. Business days are counted Monday through Friday, and Saturday and Sunday are reported separately as weekend days. 3 March to 30 June 2025 spans 120 calendar days, of which 85 are business days and 35 are weekend days.
How do I calculate total business days excluding custom holidays?
This tool excludes weekends only — there is no holiday calendar to configure. Count the public and company holidays that fall inside your range and subtract them from the business-day total yourself, so 85 business days with a three-day public holiday becomes 82 working days.
Is the start date included or excluded in the duration count?
By default the start date is excluded, so a project running 3 March to 30 June counts 85 business days. Tick “Count the start date” to include it, which makes the same range 86. Leaving it off is the usual convention for durations, deadlines, and notice periods.
